Privacy Policy
Aethus, trading as Sopherina’s Kitchen, is the controller of your personal data. This explains what we collect, why, and your rights. Contact: hello@sopherina.co.uk.
What we collect
- Account — your name, email address and a securely hashed password.
- Membership — your subscription status, plan and renewal date, and a Stripe customer reference. We do not store your card details — Stripe handles those.
- Server logs — standard, short-lived technical logs (such as IP address and requested page) used only to keep the service secure and running.
- Anonymous usage analytics — we use self-hosted Umami, a privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics tool, to understand which pages and features are used (e.g. searches, recipe views, timers). It sets no cookies, stores no personal information, doesn’t follow you to other sites, and the data never leaves our own infrastructure.
- Your kitchen activity — as a member, the recipes you save, react to, cook with Let’s Cook, and any notes you leave. Notes are shown publicly (first name only) once approved; everything else is private to your account and used to make the service work (e.g. your saved list, “how was it?” emails).
Why we use it (lawful bases)
- To provide your membership — performance of our contract with you.
- To email you about your account, trial and payments — contract. We also send member emails (the weekly recipe digest, cooking follow-ups, tips) on the soft opt-in basis for existing customers — every one has an unsubscribe link, and you can manage them all from your account.
- To keep the service safe and improve it — our legitimate interests.
Who we share it with
We use trusted providers who process data on our behalf:
- Stripe — payments and billing.
- Mailgun — sending account and lifecycle emails.
- OpenAI — generating recipe illustrations (no member personal data is sent).
- Our hosting — a UK/EU server that runs the site and database.
Some providers may process data outside the UK; where they do, appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) are in place. We never sell your data.
Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in and secure. We don’t use advertising cookies, and our analytics (Umami) is cookieless — it sets nothing on your device. If we ever add optional cookies, we’ll ask first.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while you’re a member and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal and accounting obligations, then delete or anonymise it.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your data, and object to or restrict certain uses. Email hello@sopherina.co.uk and we’ll help. You can also complain to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
